The Uncounted Hours

On July 1, 2021 efforts of my past 4 years in high school had truly paid off. That day we had the lacrosse state division 1 championship game vs Boston College High School. This was the day myself and the other seniors had been working for in the past 4 years. Countless hours of time were put into what would come that day. Each day in season lacrosse took up a minimum of 3 hours. Everyday I would commute to school for a little over an hour for a round trip. Upon getting to school a normal day would look like we had some sort of time in the classroom. Whether it be that we were talking about some kind of team values, goals, team culture, or going over film. But before even stepping into the classroom work had to be done. Everyday we were sent out our practice plan. This practice plan was down to the minute. It also included a daily quote which changed everyday, sometimes being quite lengthy. The practice plan also had what team you were on for a scrimmage and what platoon you were in for drills. We had to memorize all information on the practice plan including the quote. Some of the information on the practice plan aside from the daily quote included your platoon for the day, your team for the day, each drill for the day. Even with all this there is still more to be done. We had to fill out a daily form about health, sleep, lingering injuries, and other questions. On top of this we were to study the film. Now you are ready to go to the classroom and afterwards participate in practice. On top of these activities we also had morning lifts at 6:00am and active recoveries after gamedays. When out of season the majority of time was doing lifts, conditioning, captains practice, and for myself learning the science behind speed and explosive development. I have spent countless hours online reading and watching videos on how to efficiently train and prep your body to be as explosive as possible. During the winter was always the  toughest time. We would have captain’s practices on Tuesday and Thursday and morning lifts on the other days. I also had a particularly rigorous academic schedule. On days of the captains practice I would get home late and then have an absurd amount of homework to do. I would end up being up until around 1:00 am and then have to wake up the next morning at around 5:30 am to go lift with the team. With all of this time spent getting ready and working to improve myself as a player and a person it all paid off and we ended up winning vs Boston College High School on that July morning.
